Part II: Long COVID

According to the ZOE COVID study/ZOE app, 280,000 people logged their after-COVID effects and results indicate that they are almost twice as likely to experience COVID vaccine after-effects than those who haven't had COVID infection. This data is for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and most of those analysed were healthcare workers.

COVID-19 vaccines are made by using a harmless version or component of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus focusing on training the immune system to fight the virus off in the body. However, this ‘training’ response/vaccine can feel like some of the symptoms are similar to the real infection that the body is fighting off. These symptoms include:

  • headaches,

  • fever, chills, or shivers,

  • tiredness (fatigue),

  • muscle or joint pains,

  • diarrhoea and nausea.

A stronger response may be a result of an increased immune response. Could this be turned back to the creation of a cytokine storm, the systematic inflammatory syndrome that increases cytokine cells? Or do we tend to receive similar symptoms and not worry about it?

How reflexology helps ‘Long COVID’ effects

A King's College London study has found evidence that, those who had increased number of different symptoms in the first week of infection were more likely to develop long COVID effects. Now we are aware, a lot of people have longer COVID after-effects even after a few weeks of the infection, most commonly older people and women and one in 10 are unable to get rid of the side effects even after eight weeks of the infection. These Long COVID symptoms are a mixture of the above mentioned:

  • Fatigue

  • Cough

  • Headache

  • Loss of taste/smell

  • Shortness of breath

  • Muscle aches/joint pain

  • Memory loss/lack of concentration (brain fog)

  • Low mood

  • Anxiety/depression

You probably read a few of my blogs about how reflexology is able to help many illnesses including struggling with long COVID symptoms. Just a quick re-cap. Reflexology is a pressure point therapy applied through the feet and the hands treating the body’s systems and organs by stimulating the central nervous system. Reflexology promotes healing by releasing harming toxins in the body. Overall, reflexology aims to restore and improve your physical health and emotional well-being. It works all the body systems, organs, and glands, including the lymphatic system that is connected to support your immune system. Reflexology can also aid sleeping issues by helping the body to heal, tracking down where the blockage is and recover, guiding you to a faster process towards a relaxed sleep. Reflexology treatments are also very relaxing, alleviating any anxiety or stress connected to your emotional well-being.
